It is not easy to paint the side mirrors as it is made up of plastic. To make your job easy, I am giving a list of products that you would be needing to keep handy before starting to repaint the side mirror.

  1. Sandpaper
  2. Adhesion Spray
  3. Paint Primer
  4. A masking tape
  5. Newspapers
  6. A color can spray matching to your car’s color
  7. Cleaning towel

Once you keep all these above-stated things ready you are good to start the procedure for repainting. Check out these following seven easy steps to correctly repaint the side mirror.

Step 1:

If you want to repaint the side mirror completely then start by first cleaning the mirror with the help of a cleaning towel and an automotive cleaner. Also, I would suggest to take sandpaper and use it on the surfaces that need to be repainted.

Start using it on the back side of the side mirror and areas near side mirror as this process helps the paint to adhere to the surface.

In case you want to repaint the mirror to cover scratches on the side mirror then you can skip the sandpaper and clean the surface thoroughly.

Step 2:

Once the areas that need to painted are clean and smooth, you need to cover the areas that are not to repainted by using masking tape. Start masking the areas near the places that are supposed to be repainted. In this way, you will be able to avoid the paint on the areas on the car that you don’t want. Also, it will help in spraying the paint on the side mirror and the space beside it easily.

Step 3:

For avoiding the mess due to paint keep newspapers where you suspect of paint dripping or creating a mess. Now to make the paint to adhere to the surface of the side mirror use an adhesion spray. Apply one coat of the adhesion spray and let it dry.

Once it dries down thoroughly apply another coat of it and let it dry before applying anything on it.

Step 4:

After the coats of adhesion spray has dried apply a coat of primer. Primer helps in keeping the paint for a long time and aids in sticking the color correctly. Apply two-three coats of primer on the areas that are to be painted.

Allow the primer to dry for 10-15 minute before applying the paint. You can also wipe off the dust if any on the side mirror before starting to paint.

Tip: Make sure you give enough time for one coat to dry before applying the next coating.

Step 5:

The side mirror is now primed properly for applying the paint. Make sure that you buy a spray paint that matches the color of your car. Many dealers help you to buy the spray paint depending on the model, company, and color of your car.

Apply the coats of spray paint on the side mirror and the areas near it. You can apply 2-3 coats of the paint to cover the area adequately and let it dry for some time.

Step 6:

Once the paint has dried completely, you can finish the repainting by spraying a clear coat from a little distance. Spraying clear coat makes the surface of the side mirror shiny, and it looks like a new one.

Step 7:

After completing all the steps take off the masking tapes carefully. Also, discard the newspapers that you had kept for avoiding the mess. Also, wipe the side mirror after the paint has dried to get rid of dust if any.
